David Moyes reveals to talkSPORT he signed Marouane Fellaini for Everton after watching him play against Liverpool in 2008

It was while watching Marouane Fellaini play against Liverpool that David Moyes decided he was the man for Everton.

Fellaini joined the Toffees for a club record £15million in the final hour of transfer deadline day in September 2008.

â€Å“I remember signing him from Standard Liege,” Moyes told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast. “He actually played against Liverpool and I went to watch them play and he played so well I signed him on the back of that.”

Scouts had been keeping an eye on the then 20-year-old before Moyes went to Anfield to see him in action, where a 1-0 win saw Liverpool scrape into the Champions League group stage.

It was part of a long term strategy at Goodison Park as Everton pondered life without long serving hero Tim Cahill, with Moyes believing the Belgium international was the ideal signing.

Fellaini, now 31, later followed Moyes to Manchester United when the manager replaced Sir Alex Ferguson in the Old Trafford dugout in 2013.

However, where Moyes lost his job during the 2013/14 season, Fellaini remained at Old Trafford until January 2019, leaving the club for Shandong Luneng in the Chinese Super League.

And with rumours of a return to management with Celtic or Scotland following him, talkSPORT quizzed Moyes on where his next job is going to be. He ruled out neither.

â€Å“I prefer the day-to-day, but can I see myself being a national manager? Of course.

â€Å“Scotland is not an easy job and it hasn’t been an easy job for whoever has been in charge for quite a while now.

â€Å“But at the moment my first choice would be to go back into club management.

â€Å“I think I’d be open to whatever’s right [England or Scotland]. The best league to manage in is the English Premier League,” he said, though also said he’d like the opportunity to return abroad, too.
